A tribute to Billy Wood, Chief Fence Builder, on his 20th anniversary at GHF

When Billy Wood and his wife Cindy moved onto the farm twenty years ago, Groton House Farm Horse Trials was in its infancy. Much has changed in the intervening years. Today Billy and Cindy are the parents of two teenaged children, and it is thanks to Billy's tireless and creative work as chief fence builder that Groton House has become famous for its great cross-country courses.

Billy works full time at Groton House, and there is very little that he can't and doesn't do for the farm. And while his versatile skills have contributed broadly to the maintenance of the land, for competitors at the horse trials, it is the beautiful and challenging cross-country obstacles that are the most visible products of his labors. The terrace steps, the water jump, trakehners, and the coffin are all the result of the amazing earthworks he has engineered and produced. During the competition days themselves, he and his fence crew will always be found at the ready for repairs on course as well as on the tractor trying to keep up with waste management in the stable area!

Congratulations, Billy, on your 20th anniversary as chief fence builder. We'd be nowhere without you!
